Cathy has been an avid potter since 1991, when she enrolled in her first part time pottery study course. Her work is mostly made up of functional wares, including mugs, bowls, paté dishes. She has participated in many different method workshops over the years, including raku workshops and smoke firings. She usually has some non-functional pieces on hand for shows and sales. Her work is made up of both porcelain and stoneware clay bodies and she has a wide range of colours and styles to choose from.
The style she most likes to apply to her pottery is called “sgrafitto” whereby coloured clay is painted on the pot in the leather-hard stage and then a pattern is carved through to reveal the clay body underneath. A clear glaze is usually the finish to highlight the carving and colours used directly on the pot.
Variety would be the operative word in a description of Cathy’s pottery.
