Do you want to elevate your creativity?  Everyone has a story and clay is a natural medium for bringing that story to the surface.

Working from the basic, foundational understanding of 3 dimensional geometric shapes and how they underlie all manifested forms, we expand out to encompass our own unique, creative expression and authentic feeling within the realm of clay sculpture. This exploration grounds us in the very space we are occupying and awakens a deep sensory memory within. The applications of this sensual endeavour are endless and can be used to enhance our creativity in all other disciplines such as pottery, drawing, painting, even gardening and furniture placement.

The ancient Greek philosopher Plato,(c. 360 B.C.) theorized that the classical elements of the world were made up of five regular solids, which can be described as forming the basis of all structure. They occur in areas such as chemistry, mineralogy, electronics, oceanography, to name a few. The symmetry, structural integrity and beauty of these solids have inspired architects, artists, and artisans from ancient Egypt to the present.

In this 6 week class we will learn how to sculpt from basic principles, bringing out what moves you, and assistance will be given to more advanced sculptors to enhance their skills. Class fees include all clay and glazes used as well as a underglaze kit for the student to keep.

It runs every Monday, starting February 27 – April 3, 2023, from 11:00 – 1:30 pm.  This class is $402.35 HST included) per person and includes all materials and firing.

Please note that all classes falling on Fridays – Mondays may be subject to a statutory holiday.   The teacher and students will decide whether the scheduled class is postponed by one week.  Also, due to Covid-19, the Guild may choose, in consultation with the Board of Health to postpone the beginning of this session of classes.  If this is the case, and you have registered, you will be informed of the change immediately.
