In this full day hands-on slip transfer workshop, you will learn how to create and use your own slip transfers using newsprint, underglaze and slip. You will learn how to outline a design with a slip trailer as part of this process. This monoprinting technique is an easy and effective way to bring your pieces to life with colour and design! You will also be shown how using a light box can be used to transfer designs and patterns easily and quickly using tracing methods and a slip trailer. You will have an opportunity to try out this equipment for yourself.
Some inspiration will be provided in the way of pattern and clipart books, but please do bring any design ideas you want to try!
Slip transfer workshop supply list:
Please bring 2 leather hard pieces (one flat piece, one cylindrical piece) to work with. Any clay body is fine, and white slip and newsprint will be provided. We will additionally have on hand some small flat pieces to work with. Firing and glazing costs associated are not included in this workshop.
Other recommended supplies to bring:
- sketches, patterns and inspiration
- pencil
- slip trailer
- 1 ½ “ wide soft bristle brush (eg hake)
- various paint brushes for underglaze painting
- soft foam pad for working on
- small red rib
- dental tool or tweezers
- sponge
- underglazes – colours of your choice – note – black and some basic colours will be provided to use, but bring what inspires you!
