SUMMARY:Thursday Morning- Painting Trays and Pots 4 Weeks *Now starting March 5th*
DESCRIPTION:Are you a potter who wants to learn to paint? A painter who wants to try a new medium? This is the class for you!\nJoin the talented Sue Flanagan as she walks you through painting beautiful images on ceramic trays and pots. No past experience required! Just bring your imagination and Sue will guide you through every step. All materials and paint supplies will be provided.  \nWeek one: Make slab built trays and plates for painting on. Talk about design ideas and start planning. (2.5 hours 10:30am-1pm) \nWeeks two & three: Plan layout/design\, outline images\, and start painting. Paintings can be accented with carving if desired. Trays will be painted over two weeks to allow time for detailed work and experimenting. Underglazes (pottery paints) and brushes will be supplied but feel free to bring your own brushes if you prefer.(2.5 hrs 10:30am-1pm x 2) \nWeek four: Wax trays and Glaze them. Trays will then be glaze fired and ready to pick-up within 3 weeks. Trays will be food\, dishwasher\, and microwave safe after their final firing. DESCRIPTION:Learn to throw down some pottery at our one day wheel class! You’ll dive right into the basics of the pottery wheel and come away with your new favourite bowl\, cup\, or vase. This will be a very hands on class so come prepared for a bit of mud and allot of fun! All materials and tools will be provided. We will trim your pieces\, gaze\, and fire them to be picked up 3-4 weeks after your class. SUMMARY:Introductory Sgraffito Workshop with Cathy Allen- March 15th
DESCRIPTION:Ready to take your surface decoration to a new level?! \nIn this full day sgraffito introductory workshop\, you will begin with learning the basics of slip making using clay body and stain\, followed by slip and underglaze application on your pieces. Black slip will be provided. \nWe will go into some detail with some easy image transfer techniques too (including use of stencils and making your own). Various carving tools can be used for sgraffito techniques too\, and those will be covered as well. \nThis session will include elements and tips that go into making a successful design before you start carving your pieces. Students will explore sgraffito techniques using both slips and underglazes on some test pieces before diving in.
