Holiday Sale Profile – Anne Young

Holiday poster showing some of Anne Young's work
Anne Young grew up in Peterborough and took her first pottery class while still in High School at TASS. After finishing a Fashion merchandising course at Fleming Collage in the mid 1970’s Anne took the night school level 1, 2 & 3 pottery courses that were offered at Fleming by Gary Moxum. This bloomed into a full time career that has lasted over 45 years. Anne continues taking courses to improve her knowledge of glazing & design.

Anne’s pieces are designed to appeal to a variety of tastes her work is easily recognized by the spirited swirled handles, colourful glazes and bark like texture on the outside of some pieces. New Horsehair fired Raku work with feathers and sugar will be available at the KPG Christmas Show this year.

Anne is an avid downhill and cross country skier in the winter, golfing, fishing and loves her garden at home and cottage in the summer. Their 2 grown children are also very artistic, creative and active. Lots of fun!
Anne bought an electric wheel and kiln, glaze ingredients and clay in 1976 and has never looked back. In 1977 she married Greg Young an engineer at GE and they built a house and studio in the country side just west of Peterborough.

Anne always has enjoyed working with her hands. The magic of clay to create functional and decorative items that can be used in the house has always pleased her. Anne has sold her work at craft shows and in Galleries across Ontario including The Gallery on the Lake, The Art Loft, The Melting Pot plus the KPG gallery just to name a few. Her work can be found in houses all around the world.

Anne and a friend Lynn Self, created the “Autumn Treasures Fine Art and Craft Show” in 1989. Anne is proud of this wonderful show that showcases artist from all artistic creative fields. . Unfortunately it is on hold this year, but back next year at the Canoe Museum.

Our Christmas (Winter) show is going to happen this year with a bit of a twist. It will be from Dec. 11 – 23. With 18 potter’s and the gallery open for shoppers. You will have to sign up on line for a one half-hour spot for shopping. We will let up to 6 people into the gallery at a time.

The photo is from the installation of the trilliums our members and local community members made in honour of the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge.  We would just like to take a moment to stop, remember, and thank those men and women who died, were injured or are still in active service for our country.
