We are looking forward to welcoming Christie Gruppe to our meeting on November 12th. We had her as a presenter at least seven years ago where she showed up her character tea-pots and the press-mold process she used to put them together.
This month she is returning and telling us all about the new process of slab building that she is using. After showing some images of past and current work, Christie will be discussing and demonstrating the merits of handbuilding with slabs using Tar Paper. Bring your own scissors to the meeting if you would like to go home with your own template!
What a lovely crop of pumpkins! I love the pussycat version. Here are the pumpkins all fired and glazed that our first Family Clay Time students made last Saturday. Aren’t they wonderful? Beats the funny ashtrays we used to make when we were kids! (what’s an ashtray?)
We opened our gallery to the public officially yesterday (although, we’ve had some sales from curious shoppers already). Our official opening hours are:
There is new work from our guild members as well as work you have loved and know from George Stewart at Park Street Pottery. This is the perfect place to buy that one of a kind gift for a wedding or Christmas!
Our first Family Clay Time took place today and what a crowd of talented artists we had! They had two hours to take a lump of clay and turn it into a work of art, and if the photos are any indication, they certainly succeeded!
Aren’t they lovely!
The pumpkin tea lights are due to be picked up next Saturday, October 27th, just in time for Halloween. We’ll post a photo of the fired and glazed results when they are done.
And if you think these are impressive, wait to see what you can make for your Christmas Tree when we hold our next Family Clay Time on December 8th. This one is a two-part event. The first Saturday to make your decorations, and the second one to decorate with paint and acrylics. Again, just in time for Christmas. They can be for your own tree, or gifts for your favourite friend or relative. Because this class is over two Saturdays, it is for the slightly more expensive price of $20 for one participant or $60 for four. So get your friends together (of all ages) and join us. Fore more details, visit our Classes page.

We had the first of our classes start yesterday, Wednesday October 17th. We had two students for this particular class, and they were very productive! You can see from the photos that they made a mug, a few bowls or trays and look like they were having a fun.
Don’t forget, there is still time to sign up for our new class Discover Clay for First Time Potters which starts November 7th. See our classes page for more details.

Stu Harrison, of Business Beat, mentioned our guild! He mentioned the new classes that are starting tomorrow (Wednesday, October 17th).
What he didn’t know is that we are offering another class for those who want to dip their toes into the pottery world. Starting November 7th, we have a class available for four weeks. It’s called Discover Clay for First Time Potters Check out more in our Classes Page.
There are still places in Wednesday’s Family Clay Time Class
We spent a lovely day at Lansdowne Place today, throwing pots, chatting to people and telling them about the fun classes we will be having. Look at June, full of concentration!
Call us to sign up for one of our classes. Pottery is so much fun and you get to take home something functional when your are finished! For those of you that think throwing on the wheel is just a bit too daunting, we have hand building classes too!
Our telephone number is 705-742-4979 or email us at
Our guild is still getting the place ready for our first art classes (see our line up of classes here) setting up the studio spaces and getting the gallery set up. In fact, we don’t really have too many of our members’ work in the gallery yet, only a small selection to make it look good. Yet, we have sold our first piece of work from the gallery already!
A few of our members were in the studio yesterday when a couple wandered in to see if they could buy a wedding present. They ended up being our first sale! They bought an $85 bowl by Anne Young and were happy to let us take their picture.
We are all very excited!
The first sale for the Kawartha Potters Guild at our new location. June is wrapping up the gift they bought for a wedding.
