Covid Update – February 18, 2021

Kawartha Potters' Guild logo

From our Administrator, Donna:

Thank you for your patience while we confirmed what we are able to do as a Yellow Zone area, in relation to COVID-19. We have spoken with Peterborough Public Health and have confirmed their recommendation that people who live in an orange, red or grey zone be restricted from entering the KPG.

To ensure we all remain safe and to keep it fair for all members, students and staff, the Guild will remain closed until March 22nd when the next 6 week class session is slated to start. This of course is dependent on what zone we are in at that time. Flex Clay classes will not be offered at this time.

You are welcome to email us to arrange for drop off of items to be fired, or pick up of fired items, based on curbside service.

We will be reviewing changes as they happen. Please know that this information is only as good as today’s knowledge – everything is very fluid, changing daily. Do not hesitate to email me with any questions, your positive suggestions and comments are welcome!

For our Pottery Shop customers, our online store is still accessible and shipping and curb-side pickup are options.

Once again, thank you for your understanding and support. We are all in this together!

Covid Update – February 4, 2021

Kawartha Potters' Guild logo

Due to the extended lockdown, the Guild has opted to delay the beginning of regular classes until the week of March 22nd.  Please see our classes page for details or to register.

If we are allowed to open in February, we will be running wheel flex clay classes to tide folks over until the regular classes begin.  These will be on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings.  Registration is via email to our Administrator with payment via e-transfer.  Further details are also on our classes page (link above).

Please note that the suspension of regular classes does not apply to the Tuesday and Friday Intermediate/Advanced classes.  These will begin the week we are allowed to open.  If you haven’t registered for this and wish to do so, registration is available on our classes page.  There are spaces available in the Tuesday evening and Friday afternoon classes.

We are also hoping to run our popular Summer Camp again this summer.  Currently it is being planned with the same smaller ratios that we offered last summer to maintain distancing and safety for our campers and our staff.  The weeks we will be offering are: July 5, 12, 19, August 9 & 16th.  We plan to offer a Teen Week the week of August 3, which may include the wheel if we feel it is safe to do so.  Registration and more details will be available on our camp page soon.

As a reminder, non-medical masks, or face coverings are required to be worn at all times while inside the Guild facility.  Acceptable styles fit securely to the head with ties or ear loops, be made of at least two layers of tightly woven material (such as cotton or linen), best if a filter can be added, and be large enough to completely cover the nose and mouth without gaping.  Masks with any type of valve are not acceptable.

Covid Update – December 23, 2020

To All Guild Members, Studio Members, Teachers, Students & Customers:

We are again in the unfortunate position of having to close our Guild and Pottery Shop and postpone all classes (including private) until after January 23rd at the earliest.  We are following our Public Health and Provincial Government recommendations and requirements, for a Provincial lock down to be in effect from Dec 26th to January 23 (for Southern Ontario).  We will update our website as new information / dates are made available and ask you to keep checking in on the website.

Please refrain from coming into the Guild for any reason during this time – it is not open for drop off / pick up / studio use etc.

On the bright side, we can offer curbside pick up for Pottery Shop items, clay, online store, etc..  Simply send me an email outlining what you want and I’ll reply with cost (e-transfers will be all methods of payment) and times available for parking lot pick up.   This email address will continue to be checked by me, so don’t hesitate to email any questions, concerns, etc..

I would like to extend my wishes to you and your Family for a safe and happy Christmas, whatever it is going to look like this year.

Please stay safe and well.

Donna O’Brien

Online Store Update

Online shop

We’ve added quite a number of new items to our online store and will continue to do so right up until the Holidays.  Please note that the Guild itself will be closed from December 24 – January 3, 2020 so you may experience a delay being able to pick up or have your piece delivered or shipped.  If you have any questions, please contact our Administrator Donna

Introducing our Online Store!

Online shop

We are so excited to be able to announce that our pottery is now available for purchase online, right from this website.  We are very thankful to our volunteers, the City of Peterborough for a grant to help us get this up and running and to Brendan Quigley, local Shopify Freelancer who has been of great assistance helping us get online.

Purchases can be shipped or you can arrange for curb-side pick up.  We are still working to upload more of our stock, so check back often!  You can visit the store here.

Remembrance Day

The photo is from the installation of the trilliums our members and local community members made in honour of the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge.  We would just like to take a moment to stop, remember, and thank those men and women who died, were injured or are still in active service for our country.

Holiday Sale – Save the Dates!

Our annual and well loved Holiday Sale is on for this year!  It will be a bit different this year in order to keep everyone safe.  It will run for 12 days at our Talwood location, from Friday December 11th, 2020 to Wednesday December 23rd, 2020.

Stay tuned on how you’ll be able to sign up for a personal shopping experience!  More information to come!

Board Members Wanted!

The Board is looking for new Board members.  Board members do not need to be a potter, or a Guild member.  If you are interested, or know someone who would be willing to be nominated, please contact our Board Chair, Ann Hobday.

Members, please consider attending, via Zoom, our Annual General Meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2020.  There are many decisions that need Guild member approval, including the above voting in of new Board members.  More details are available on the Members side of the website.
