To Teach, To Learn, To Share

2021 Holiday Sale Profile – June Goodwin

June Goodwin was born in 1951 in Meppershall, England – a rural village listed in the Domesday book from 1063. June started her artistic career studying fashion at Luton University, UK and Fabric at S.O.C.A.D. Having explored various media over the years, June now works exclusively in clay, producing practical items that are not only useful and attractive, but hopefully a joy to use. Current work is focused on surface design that uses addition and subtraction to create one of a kind surfaces.  As a member of the Kawartha Potters Guild, she has served the guild as chair, treasurer and on the programs committee. She was one of the core group of
volunteers to spear head the move to a 24/7 studio and gallery at Talwood and continues to support the guild as an instructor and by showing her work in the Gallery. Her work can also be seen at the “ARTISANity” show. She has taken numerous ceramic workshops in both Canada and the UK.  She loves teaching, and says, “You send out information and ideas, and the most amazing pieces result! I learn so much from my students.”
The guild offers many ways to try your hand with clay and many find that it centres them. June loves the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada, which she now calls home.

Our sale continues through December 23rd.  Sale hours are Mon – Fri Noon – 5:00 p.m., Sat & Sun – 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

June Goodwin getting ready for show

June Goodwin is the hardest working member of our guild.  A lot of days you will find her at the gallery, either teaching or doing our books, as she is our treasurer and general “go to” person.  How she has time to do her own work is beyond us all!  Below is some of her work that has been bisqued and is ready to be glazed.  That is where the magic comes!  Every time we open the kiln, we never know what we will get!  You’ll have to come to our sale to find out!

Heritage Day at Buckhorn Community Centre

What a great day we all had at the Buckhorn Community Centre (also known as the BCC) on Saturday February 16th.

It was advertised as a “fun day for the whole family with rides, displays, entertainment and food. A fund raiser for the Buckhorn Community Sports Complex. Come kick-off Ontario Heritage Week with a great day of fun !!!” and it was that and more.  We went with our wheel and had kids lined up to have a turn with our teachers George Stewart and June Goodwin.  We all fell in love with Ben, who may well have a future as a potter!
