It was a crowded and fun day at the Kawartha Potters Guild on February 18th this year. We had 23 people signed up to come to our class to make creatures, and what a lovely bunch of creatures they made! It is a good time to stress that you must PreRegister for a class ahead of time to avoid disappointment. We will not hold any spaces for people who have not registered and paid ahead of time.
Thanks to all who came out, better be quick and sign up now for our next class!
Cathy Allen recently came upon a link to some photos in Flickr from about seven or so years ago. There are a lot of photos from our Christmas sale and other events and presenters. It’s worth checking out here.
What a great day we all had at the Buckhorn Community Centre (also known as the BCC) on Saturday February 16th.
It was advertised as a “fun day for the whole family with rides, displays, entertainment and food. A fund raiser for the Buckhorn Community Sports Complex. Come kick-off Ontario Heritage Week with a great day of fun !!!” and it was that and more. We went with our wheel and had kids lined up to have a turn with our teachers George Stewart and June Goodwin. We all fell in love with Ben, who may well have a future as a potter!
We have our February meeting coming up on the 11th. We will have our Guru of Glazes, George Stewart talking about glaze chemistry. We will also be glazing the mugs that we made last month. Lot’s to talk about and friends to meet. See you there!
SNAP Peterborough has included our Christmas Show and Sale on their online edition of the SNAP paper. Check it out here.
This has been a most satisfying month at our Talwood home. Classes are starting to fill up. Folks are dropping in during the day to browse the gallery, have a look at our home and share a cup of tea. Most exciting, clay, instead of gallery and studio logistics, is becoming our focus.
For starters, Caroline Cisco has spent more than a few hours using the pug mill and patience to reclaim clay for guild use. Following Monday night’s regular monthly business meeting, members donned their aprons, rolled up their sleeves and made a pile of mugs – some thrown and some hand built. Tuesday, a few members returned to trim bottoms and attach handles. It was an afternoon of blissful collaborative work. Some quiet, some chatter, some laughter and lots of discussion and sharing.
George and I took the liberty of signing each finished mug with KPG. Hopefully this will be the beginning of our guild ware line. And even if these first pieces don’t make it past the standards committee, their production is testament to our purpose.
Three cheers for our guild!

We’ll be located by the escalators. Drop by for a chat, purchase a piece of pottery, or check out our class schedules and workshops. Hope to see you there!
We have a ballot each year and ask if people want to be on our mailing list (some do, no pressure) and if they have any comments.
We thought we would share a small sampling of comments as they were very nice this year.
