To Teach, To Learn, To Share

Grand Opening still on!

We had a great day yesterday with lots of really good sports.

Mayor Bennett of Peterborough came and cut the ribbon of our new premises and then hand made a bowl that we will be selling at the YWCA’s Empty bowl event taking place on June 21st.  He has spent time making pies, we suspect!  Then we had MP Dean Del Mastro on hand in the afternoon and he threw a bowl as well!  He learned the the placement of the tongue is very important when making pottery.  We were impressed that he was able to throw a pot and keep his black suit clean!

Mike made a newsroom desk! for CHEX

The boys from CHEX, Tyler Calver and Mike Judson also made bowls on the wheel and had a great time. Mike Judson had such a good time he stayed longer and made a news desk! (Tyler wanted to stay but had a prior engagement)  It’s such a fun place here that people love to stay!

We were impressed with all of guests that came out yesterday.  What good sports.  Mike and Tyler even did a re-enactment scene from the movie Ghost. Very funny.

We are still open today from noon – 4 and we welcome all to come down and view our facilities.  You can have a go trying out building things with clay at our working area and be inspired to take a class!  We know we will see the fellows that were here yesterday again! 🙂

Here are some photos from the day.  The Spinners and Weavers as well as the Woodturners were also on hand demonstrating their art in our lovely courtyard.  There is plenty of parking, so please feel free to visit.

Liz Willoughby – wonderful presentation

We were honoured to have Liz Willoughby presenting on Monday, May 13th at the Kawartha Potters Guild.  She was very interesting and showed us how she puts together her Uwers with their spouts.  Very good tips from a pro.

Kind Words

We have a ballot each year and ask if people want to be on our mailing list (some do, no pressure) and if they have any comments.

We thought we would share a small sampling of comments as they were very nice this year.

“Love this show”

“Starts off my Christmas”

“Yearly Pilgrimage”

“Wonderful Stuff”

“Miss your Spring Show”

“Great Variety”

“Love Hurly Burly”

“Could do with some larger soup bowls, the ones I’ve found are too small”

“Wonderful, Christmas Gifts Galore!”

“Super, mega, awesome”

“Amazing items, so hard to choose, I want one of everything!”

“I visit every year for unique, local gifts”

Thank you to everyone who visited and who has supported us in our move to our permanent location.

We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Gearing up for October 1st

We have our first meeting at 993 Talwood Drive on October 1st, and we are seeing progress being made on the interior.  We had a painting session and now the walls are going up and recently Carolyn Cisco was sewing material to cover them.  It is so exciting to see the mess we started out with, slowly but gradually becoming a studio and gallery and a space for meetings.  A big thank you to Kenner’s grade ten construction class (and their teacher Mr. Chislett) for the quick and professional building of our dividers.

So much work is being done by so many people.  It is heartening to see everyone pulling together for this.

We will have our phone connected by the end of today (Tuesday, September 25th) and the number is 705-742-4979.  This was the number that George Stewart used for his Park Street Pottery shop.  Please leave a message if you don’t get an answer, there should be someone there most days, and every day once we are up and running.

Classes are being advertised and we are accepting email registrations already, and hopefully will have online registrations in the near future.  You can call and find out who is in and drop off a cheque or pay cash for any course you wish to take.

Enjoy the photos of the process.
