Covid-19 Update – January 5, 2022

Kawartha Potters' Guild logo

The Provincial Government announced new Covid restrictions effective Jan 5th for 21 days; we are back to a modified Stage 2 which means KPG will be closed for all in-person activity.

The classes slated to start the week of January 10th have been postponed to the week of January 24th.

We can keep the Gallery Shop open for retail therapy, with a maximum of 3 people in the facility at a time (not including staff/volunteer), with 6’ distancing, full mask and sanitizing on entry.

Members can do drop off and pick ups, purchase clay, tools, etc., however, we ask them to call or email to confirm date and time to ensure we don’t exceed our numbers. We will have either Kristina, Donna or Noreen at the Guild Tues – Fri from 1-5 for customers to shop and members to do their drops/pick ups.

If you have any questions, please contact Donna directly.

Happy Holidays and Thank You

Another year will soon be behind us, and we would like to extend our most grateful thanks to each and every one of our customers, Volunteers, Students and friends of KPG.

This year has been full of new and sometimes unexpected challenges. Folks at KPG have been working their socks off to get your orders out of the door, Students work finished and providing services for our members.

The Guild is now closed until January 2022.

We are so appreciative of your support and understanding of the difficulties we have all had to face and wish everyone a peaceful holiday and a healthy New Year.  Stay safe.

Holiday Sale Thank You

The Guild has just concluded a very successful Holiday Sale. Thank you to all our loyal customers who continue to shop at the sale and to all the new customers who discovered us this year by following the red arrow.
A special thank you to the Sales Committee who diligently worked to provide a safe and stress free environment for holiday shopping. To all the volunteers who worked during the sale, sincere gratitude. And to the potters who have worked for the past several months creating beautiful pottery, your pottery exemplifies the quality to be found at the Kawartha Potters Guild.

Socks Peterborough is immensely grateful for the 5 large shopping bags they received from students and customers of the Guild.

Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday Season and peace, joy and good health in 2022.

2021 Holiday Sale Profile – Wendy Spencer

Wendy refers to herself as a potaholic! Her pottery addiction began in England when she was in her twenties.
She is now retired but still enjoys the challenge of creating a perfect form out of a lump of clay. She works mainly on the wheel but loves to experiment with different techniques such as raku and pit firing. She will have some unique bird houses this year and a new item – whiskey sippers.

2021 Holiday Sale Profile – Joanne Connell Northey

I love the magic of making pottery! Start with a lump of clay and it can turn into something amazing! It is always a surprise when the kiln is opened.  My main focus is functional pottery, and I also enjoy making decorative raku pottery and sculpture.  Living on a farm allows me to appreciate the peaceful countryside, the beautiful old barns, the wildflowers, and the many lakes in this area, all of which I often portray on my pottery.  Family, friends and travel are all very important to me.

Our sale continues through to December 23rd.  Sale hours are Mon – Fri – Noon – 7:00 p.m., Sat & Sun 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

2021 Holiday Sale Profile – June Goodwin

June Goodwin was born in 1951 in Meppershall, England – a rural village listed in the Domesday book from 1063. June started her artistic career studying fashion at Luton University, UK and Fabric at S.O.C.A.D. Having explored various media over the years, June now works exclusively in clay, producing practical items that are not only useful and attractive, but hopefully a joy to use. Current work is focused on surface design that uses addition and subtraction to create one of a kind surfaces.  As a member of the Kawartha Potters Guild, she has served the guild as chair, treasurer and on the programs committee. She was one of the core group of
volunteers to spear head the move to a 24/7 studio and gallery at Talwood and continues to support the guild as an instructor and by showing her work in the Gallery. Her work can also be seen at the “ARTISANity” show. She has taken numerous ceramic workshops in both Canada and the UK.  She loves teaching, and says, “You send out information and ideas, and the most amazing pieces result! I learn so much from my students.”
The guild offers many ways to try your hand with clay and many find that it centres them. June loves the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada, which she now calls home.

Our sale continues through December 23rd.  Sale hours are Mon – Fri Noon – 5:00 p.m., Sat & Sun – 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
